The transient of the Soret effect visualizing the variation of concentration in binary mixture in a region very close where thermal gradient applies
Start/end dates
Description
Chemical Wave In Soret effect (CWIS) is an experiment to study the transient of the Soret effect visualizing the variation of concentration in binary mixture in a region very close where thermal gradient applies.
A first version of the experiment was launched in May 2014 on-board a REXUS sounding rocket from Esrange Space Center. The experiment takes advantages of a modified Fizeau interferometer that squeezes the image in obtain high resolution images of a small region of the liquid system. Fizeau interferometry is very robust with respect to vibration and shocks. The liquid cell system design includes an a reference liquid chamber and allows observing the concentration variation induced by Thermodiffusion.
The objective is to visualize the named Chemical Wave, a strong concentration variation at the very beginning of the Soret Effect that was only theorized and never observed experimentally.
